Nightlife
2006 |
Nightlife at SUUSI consists of Cabaret, Serendipity, Cache, Common Ground, and Late Night. This year, they shifted things around because of construction at Owens' ballroom, making that room inaccessible. This meant that Cabaret went into the Hokie Grill this year, while Serendipity was moved across the campus to Cochrane Hall, a little ways from the D2 dining hall. That turned it into a mini-Shangri-La, because it was so far from other places. It even had a patio to walk through before going in. The room was much smaller this year, causing some collisions in the Contra Dancing, for instance. But it still provided a lot of dancing fun this year. Some of this can be viewed by clicking the upper left picture, which goes to a YouTube video of one minute of Serendipity. On Wednesday night we had the costume party, and the winner was Laura Cormier, with her black costume with lots of techno-gizmos on it (lower left). Sometimes we were all alone on the dance floor (lower right).
Cabaret featured a whole host of SUUSI stars, including Greg Greenway, Bo Chagnon, Amy Carol Webb, Joe Jencks, The Wishing Chair, Rod MacDonald, and others. They all sang together at one time (upper right). They also sang individually. I took a workshop from the Wishing Chair, and rather serendipitously came up with several poems.
