You can swing your partner at two of SUUSI's most popular workshops, Contra Dancing on Monday and Tuesday. Contra dancing is one place where you can dance with a large number of people, where the motions you go through remind one of an amusement park ride, and where you can be a part of a mathematical structure; in particular, a non-Abelian group (see my article Mattresses, Contra Dancing, and Quilts). In the first night we learned how to swing partners, do-si-do, allemande, and ladies chain, and how to put these together to produce a contra dance. I went to both of these workshops, and also to Ceili Dancing on Wednesday; I found this to be similar to contra dancing but faster and with a jig step included.
