Top, Greenway's Activists, Serendipity; Bottom, Youth Choir; Contra Dancing from 2001
This year's nightlife featured all the usual stars - Amy Carol Webb, Greg Greenway, Stephanie Corby, and others. But there were others. The most prominent was Theme Talk speaker Steve Crump, who sang two of his songs using something other than the usual guitar or other stringed instrument. He used a pre-recorded accompaniment. This means that a guitar is not needed to perform at Cabaret. Other interesting songs include Susan Baylies' song to impeach President Bush, Greg Greenway's collection of activist singers, Amy Carol Webb's Voice Empowereds, and Improv, in which I was part of the act, in which most of us made a "slide" formation, and a speaker was to narrate this as though it was a Power Point slide. Serendipity featured a new DJ - First UU Church of Richmond's Tim Stanton; there were New Year's treats the first night, and Thursday night, Down by the SUUSea, turned into more of a volleyball game with beach balls than a dance; maybe we should have worn beach volleyball clothing. Once again the Youth put on a good performance on Friday night. Contradancing was good as usual, with many types of contra dances, but I saw none of the unusual dances of the past - square dances, pentagon dances, Sicilian dances and so forth.
