Where's the Way?

poem written at SUUSI 2000

I reach my goal, but it is nothing.
The success is nothing. Nothing is success
I'm in a desert. So where's the jungle?
Mighty machines take me to the jungle.
I'm in a jungle. So where's the desert?
Mighty machines take me to the desert.
I'm in the desert. My jungle is a desert.
Which way to go?
I find a guide. She says, come this way?
Which way?
She says follow me to the jungle.
I tell her, I want the garden.
She says follow me to the garden.
I follow her. She leads me to the jungle
I tell her, I want the garden
She says follow me to the garden.
I follow. She leads me to the desert.
She flies into the air, to the sky
I look at the sky. The Pleiades.
She's there. The Pleiades.
Seven guides. Seven Sisters
All leading me the wrong way.
Which way is the right way?
Which way.
Certainly they should know.
I want to find out more closely, more clearly
Maybe I'll find my way.
I get out the binoculars, point them to the Pleiades,
seeking the way.
Now I see hundreds of sisters, all leading
me the wrong way.
The right way must be there, but where?
Where is it?
All the wrong way.
Where's the right way?
What's my way?
