Strumming, Dancing, and Calculus

Nightlife at SUUSI consists of Cabaret, Serendipity, Cache, Common Ground, and Late Night. I went only to the first two but found good nightlife at both, with some rather unusual appearances. Amy Carol Webb recited "Rindecella", about a woman with two sugly isters who went to the Dancy Fress Ball to meet Chince Prarming, only to slop her dripper. Stephanie Corby sang the beautiful but odd tune "Fireworks in March" (every day's a celebration!), but most of all one SUUSI performer came out in cap and gown and introduced us to Bob and Maria, who are differential equations. How did these escape from math class? Bob (i.e., 4 d2x/dt2 + 4 dx/dt + 5x = 0) is shown above, with the Greek letter phi instead of x. johnsmith sang a few songs, including "Kicking the Stone". Then there was Serendipity this year, and I had a great time dancing, especially Tuesday night when only about four of us were dancing. Come on, where is everybody? Come on out and dance! Contra Dancing once again gave us the opportunity to dance with everyone else and to be part of a dihedral group. There was the usual costume contest, and I dressed in my magician costume which so far has won 2 second-place and 1 third-place awards; this time I added more trinkets and plenty of things that glowed and flashed. But I did not win. The magic of that costume has been broken. I probably will dress as something else next year.
