Singing |
My major workshop at SUUSI was johnsmith's Songs: Writing your Story workshop (#129). In this workshop we wrote two songs, one after a meditative exercise, and one expressing compassion. I brought a guitar, even though I have just started to learn to play this instrument. It is an ideal instrument as it is not very bulky to travel with and it enables you to play many notes at once, thus being a one-person band. I usually write music using a computer and a program called Cakewalk, and a sample appears on this page. The different key signatures result from my assuming that one puts a capo on the fifth fret of the guitar. The two pieces I wrote were "Sea of Lies" and "The Green Flower". The idea behind the latter is that most flowers are not green, because then they would not attract bees. However, I thought that flowers were too ordinary, so I proposed a gift that was beyond flowers: a green flower that is as beyond flowers as flowers are beyond leaves. I played this for Anne's birthday a few weeks past SUUSI, and she really enjoyed it. How many of you have given your significant other a song for their birthday? From left to right, from top to bottom, a green rose, johnsmith, Mindy Simmons, and a section of sheet music from "The Green Flower".
