My own workshops

I gave three workshops this year: Polyhedra, Astronomy, and Stories of the Sky.

Weaving Paper Polyhedra this year featured many models, including World, a 240-sided model. Several people made models, and ten of them were at the Artist's Exhibit on Friday night in Slusher. In case you missed it, the same display is on this page. These are all great models, and I hope to give this workshop next year so that more models will be built.

Stories of the Sky featured legends of the constellations in our sky from the Greeks, Romans, Native Americans, Australian aborigines, Chinese, and Japanese. Our recognized 88 constellations are based mostly on Greek and Roman legend, so that these other legends are something different: a different way of thinking of the same stars in our sky. For those who took the Ken Wilber workshop, especially on Friday: Greek and Roman constellation stories express the Red meme, while Native American and Australian Aborigine stories express the Purple meme.

Astronomy was an introduction to astronomy including the stars, galaxies and planets, and how to view them with the naked eye, binoculars, and a telescope. Saturn iis the current astronomical attraction, because of its visit by the Cassini space probe. This workshop really requires a "lab" or skywatch, at night. Both this workshop and Stories of the Sky were enhanced by new computer projection equipment that I purchased this year.

Next year: I may give additional workshops on Mathematics and Religion, and on Peak Oil.
