One of the highlights of SUUSI is going out to hike in in the Blue Ridge mountains and go on aquatic, rapelling or caving adventures. I went on a new trip this year, Grantland Reservoir, part of which was dry and was accommodating a flock of Canada geese (bottom left). We hiked a way, reaching many Places of Doubt, including a tree across the path. We reached a landing with three electric-motor powered boats, and we boated back to the starting point.

On Friday, I went on a wildflower walk with Ernie Wilson, a member of my congregation. Two yellow wildflowers were among the flowers I saw on that hike. I went birding one morning and wound up walking to my dorm instead of taking the van. There were not too many birds; summer is not the time for them. I went stargazing on Thursday night, where we saw M57, M13, M7, and M51, all astronomical objects from Messier's catalog. We also saw Jupiter play hide and go seek with altocumulus clouds. It was a good night despite the clouds.

Some nature things did not require a hike. At the lower right is a squirrel near my dorm.
