| 1979 | CHANGing | 7/22-7/28 | GENTLEPERSON: Summer Institute is an adventure, always. And this catalog is your invitation to adventure with us. For almost 30 years Unitarians in the southeast and their friends have met for this week-long Institute. The Institute has evolved, changed, and grown enormously in the past few years. The experience has also varied from person to person and from year to year, but some things have remained constant: it is a place to relax, to make and renew friendships, a place for new and important ideas and a festival for people of all ages. In 1979 we'll meet in Radford, Virginia, at Radford College, 34 miles southwest of Roanoke in the New River Valley. It's a place we've enjoyed for five years - the mountains are close, the weather is temperate, the college staff is friendly and flexible, the campus provides a self-contained and safe environment for our children. We expect about 900 people; a volunteer staff that works year-long has planned a program of worship, workshops, nature trips, family activities, social gatherings, and speakers. For me, for my children and for our increasingly extended family, Summer Institute is a warm and loving community. I hope you will join us. SUUSI is the world's 2nd largest gathering of Unitarian Universalists and their friends meeting for a week of fellowship. In 1980 we'll meet in Radford, Virginia at Radford University, 34 miles southwest of Roanoke in the New River Valley. It's a place we've enjoyed for six years - the mountains are close, the weather is temperate the college staff is friendly and flexible, the campus provides a self-contained and safe environment for our children. We expect about 1200 people; a volunteer staff that works year-long has planned a program of worship, workshops, nature trips, family activities, social gatherings, and speakers. But more than the programs and the facilities. SUUSI is a yearly festival, a time to develop your thoughts, explore your faith, share your values, stretch your mind, know your family, celebrate your beliefs, to dance, to play, to worship, to relax, to learn, to love. For me and my sons it's a place for intellectual and outdoor adventure in a community that's caring - a community whose people expect and find the best in each other. We hope you'll join us.
